A hybrid Lagrangian–Eulerian flow solver applied to elastically mounted cylinders in tandem arrangement

The fluid–structure interaction of cylinders in tandem arrangement is used as validation basis a multi-domain Lagrangian–Eulerian hybrid flow solver. solver built on Lagrangian approximation the entire flow-field using particles, which grid based Eulerian solutions are overlaid, one for every solid body. grids body fitted but limited width and may overlap cases close proximity bodies. strongly (implicitly) interconnected two ways: solution provides conditions over outer boundaries grids, while update properties particles that within their own domains. Also, implicit coupling with structural dynamics case elastically supported. density–dilatation–vorticity–pressure formulation makes use Particle Mesh method to obtain velocity field density–velocity–pressure formulation. first validated an isolated rigid cylinder at Re=100. Then single mounted Re=200 considered, followed by either or mounted. Good agreement results produced spectral element immersed boundary methods found indicating capabilities predictions. Also flexibility handling complex multi-body problems demonstrated allowing grid-overlapping.
